"I guess when you break it all down, a recording studio is only as good as it's engineer.  Good gear helps of course, but it's the person at the controls that makes the real difference.  The ideal bond between the artist and the engineer is one of complete trust; it has to be that way in order to get a good performance.  Gary Smith is not just a great producer and engineer, he's also a terrific musician.  He has the ears, the experience, the patience, and yes, the gear...  And, that's why Nottingham is a very cool place to record"   John Dillon - The Ozark Mountain Daredevils

"Gary Smith and Nottingham were truly the "one stop shop" for novices such as myself and my son, Ryan Manuel. After an internet search, we selected several studios in Missouri. Gary was the first stop on that list and it was obvious there wasn't a need to look further. The communication, the musicians, the studio and equipment, the coaching, the web site development and itunes delivery were first rate. From A to Z, Gary's vast experience and contacts made it easy. My son Ryan went from nothing to a 12 song CD that's selling on itunes, Amazon, at his shows, and on his website. With recent developments, the album " Kansas" may soon hit the shelves in WalMart. I couldn't be more proud of my son Ryan or our choice to go with Gary and Nottingham Studios."  Dean & Ryan Manuel - Sedalia, Missouri

"I've worked with Gary Smith at his studio for a number of years now and have recorded three solo CDs there. My long time partner and I (Brewer & Shipley) have recorded in many of the best and well known studios in this country and I couldn't choose a better one to record in than Nottingham.  I shoud mention, Gary is one of the finest musician/engineers I've ever worked with. Looking forward to recording another one soon !"  Michael Brewer - Brewer & Shipley a number of years now and have rone of the finest musician/engineers I've ever worked with. Looking forward to recording

"My name is John Curtis Sampson and I am an award winning singer/songwriter from Nova Scotia, Canada. I have won several East Coast Music Awards as well as several British Columbia Music Awards. I've had the wonderful pleasure of recording at Nottingham. Gary Smith made the process very easy. He had all the right gear and the knowledge to use it. The sessions were great and were casual, relaxing experiences. Gary produced a professional state of the art recording for me that has opened a lot of doors because of its high quality and true sound. I will certainly record at Nottingham in the future as opportunity presents itself!"  John Curtis Sampson - Nova Scotia, Canada

"I've recorded all over the country, from Los Angeles to Houston, from San Antonio to Nashville, from Branson to Muscle Shoals.  I've never had a more satisfying recording experience than at Nottingham in Springfield, Missouri.  Gary Smith has built a state of the art facility and, he is not only a fine studio technician, but a fantastic musician that is capable of bringing any musical project to fruition.  We cut an album in May and I've been touring because of it since June. Wherever I travel through the country, the musicians always ask where and how I got such a terrific sound."   Jimmy Harriss - Ozark, Missouri

"Finished my album not long ago and it would not have turned out as well as it did without the expertise of Gary Smith, owner of Nottingham Recording.  As producer of my project, he took the music I wrote and turned it into a professional product. His experience and success in the Recording Business is long lived.  His understanding of what I needed for my music was well above my expectations. The musicians and background singers he used for my project were the very best and most talented.  His attention to detail was outstanding! I hope in the near future to do another album and there is no doubt that I will go back to Gary Smith at Nottingham!"  Kenny Boerema - West Plains, Missouri

NEW BOXCAR WILLIE DOCUMENTARY RELEASED !

EXECUTIVE PRODUCER LlOENE MARTIN AND PRODUCER GARY SMITH

Springfield, MO. – January 22, 2016 – A new 82 minute documentary is scheduled for release that covers the life of Lecil Travis Martin, known to most as Boxcar Willie. Boxcar, known as “The World’s Favorite Hobo”, was born in Sterrett, Texas in 1931 and passed at the age of 67 in 1999. As a child and young man, he grew up around trains and hobos. He joined the air force in 1949 at age nineteen and eventually became a flight engineer flying in fuel tankers in the Korean War. His musical career began as “Marty Martin and The Rangers” traveling the U.S. playing various venues. After adopting the name “Boxcar Willie” and enjoying its popularity and success, he left the air force in 1976 to perform his music full time. Known for his distinctive vocal train whistle and pure country sound, Boxcar has sold over 100 million records, tapes and CD’s worldwide. He appeared several times at the Wembley arena in England and made many other appearances around the world. In 1981 he was inducted as the 60th member of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. During his career he appeared on many TV shows including The Gong Show, Family Feud, Nashville Now, Hee Haw, Crook and Chase, and several others. In 1985, Boxcar and his wife Lloene moved to Branson, Missouri and purchased a theater on 76 Country Music Boulevard. In addition to the Boxcar Willie Theater, they opened a museum and two motels. Boxcar Willie was one of the first big stars to open a show in Branson, paving the way for other nationally known names that followed. He performed at his theater in Branson until his death in 1999.

“I’m so happy to see this project come to fruition. The world will now know all of the great things that he accomplished”, says executive producer and wife Lloene Martin, of Trainman Productions, Inc.

Producer Gary M. Smith of Nottingham Recording in Springfield states, “It has been such an honor and privilege to create this wonderful documentary. I believe what people will enjoy most is that the story is told in his own words”.

A comedy DVD is currently underway as a second release.  The new DVD, “Boxcar Willie, His Story” will be available at the official website, www.boxcarwillie.com as well as several other retail outlets.
